Most Americans Stand Against Gender Transitions for Minors

A Rasmussen Reports poll found that nearly six out of ten Americans (58%) are against sex change drugs and minor surgeries.

Of the 58 percent who are against sex changes for minors (including those who have undergone surgery), 47 percent strongly oppose such measures. The survey revealed that 30 percent of Americans are in favor of such drugs and surgeries to mutilate sex for minors.

Democrats (47%) are more likely than Republicans (13%) and unaffiliated (27%) to support drugs and surgeries that cause sex mutilation in confused youth.

The survey also found that nearly half of Americans (47%) oppose teachers and schools counseling students about “their gender and sexual identities” without parental consent or knowledge. 23 percent of respondents believe that schools and teachers can counsel students on sexuality and transgenderism without parents’ knowledge or consent. 30 percent were not sure.

Americans of all political stripes are concerned about schools taking over the role of the parents in the education of their children. The survey revealed that 59 percent of GOP voters and 40 percent of Democrats believe schools shouldn’t counsel students about sex and gender identity without parental consent or knowledge.

Nearly 4 in 10 Americans (39%) say that most schools “accommodate” transgender students too much. Twenty-four percent of Americans say that most schools don’t do enough to accommodate transgender students, while 21 percent say it is about right. Another 17 percent are unsure.

According to the survey, “35 percent of Democrats, 14 % of Republicans, and 21 % of unaffiliated people think that most schools do not do enough to accommodate such students.” According to the survey report, 59 percent of Republicans, 28 percent of Democrats, and 38% of unaffiliated people believe that most schools are doing too much for such students.

The survey involved 1,237 American adults from August 8 to August 11. The margin of error for sampling is +-3 points at a level of 95 percent confidence.
