Nancy Pelosi, the former Democratic Speaker of the House, scolded CNN’s Jake Tapper after he played a clip in which the Vice President was criticized by the former president of the United States during a Tuesday interview.
Tapper stated that he has heard from progressives and Democratic voters, who wanted the media to cover Trump’s “cognitive issues” as much they covered President Biden’s. He also asked Pelosi’s reaction to Trump discussing it.
He then played an audio clip of Trump from Tuesday saying, “They laugh us everywhere.” They are laughing at us. What are they laughing about? They can’t imagine that Kamala will be the president. They don’t believe you- You speak of cognitive problems? “She has bigger cognitive issues than [Biden] in my opinion.”
The host summarized the news by saying, “Donald Trump said that Kamala has more cognitive problems than Joe Biden.”
Why would you cover it? Pelosi demanded. “This person is not at the same level. He’s their candidate for president. He is incompetent. “Let’s not talk about how ridiculous and bizarre it all is, or the assault against women it is.”
Tapper intervened after the former House Speaker criticized Trump on several issues including “the worst record in job creation of any president since Herbert Hoover.”
He replied, “Yes, because of COVID.”
Pelosi rejected this explanation outright. She argued that Congress worked to inject $3 trillion into the economy. Trump, on the other hand, was criticized for his “denial and delays” in responding to the pandemic. “Thousands and thousands and thousands of people have died because of this.”
Tapper later defended his decision to show the Trump clip.
“Let’s just ask, why am I running that clip?” He said, “I run this clip because it’s the Republican Presidential nominee and I thought that you might react to it.”
Tapper was pushed back by Pelosi when he asked about tensions between Biden and her at the DNC.

He replied: “They wrote it in my script, and forced me to read it.” Then he joked that they were holding his cat hostage.
