A bill to fund the government over six months has been pulled by Speaker Mike Johnson due to Republican disagreement. The current funding ends on September 30.
No vote today, because we are in the business of building consensus here in Congress. Johnson told reporters that you can only achieve a small majority with little effort. We’re having family discussions, thoughtful conversations in the Republican Conference and I think we’ll make it.
Johnson has already made it difficult for the bill to pass because he is determined to include the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act in the spending bill. Johnson will need a near-unanimous vote from the GOP to send the bill to the Senate where we can expect the usual spending show.
There are two types of GOP concerns. Republicans have two different views. Some are against continuing spending levels at the current level. Others are against continuing resolutions and want Congress to pass annual spending bills, instead of continuing resolutions that sustain Porkulus for several years.
