Ryan Wesley Routh is the alleged suspect in the second Trump assassination attempt.
He is accused of shooting a rifle at the golf course fence where Trump was. He was between 300 and 500 yards away. The police claimed he was holding an AK-47 rifle with a scope, and a Go-Pro at the fence. He had ceramic plates in a bag. He fled in a black SUV after the Secret Service shot at him. The suspect was spotted by a citizen who took a photo of his driver’s license and gave it to the police. Martin County Sheriff’s Office caught the suspect on the highway. Sheriff William Snyder stated that the suspect was not armed and was “calm”. He is in custody.
There’s now more information on this man, and it’s alarming.
The Sacramento Bee reports:
He had a criminal record in North Carolina, which included convictions for possession of weapons and mass destruction between 2002 and 2010, carrying a concealed weapon, hit-and-run, possession of stolen items, and resisting law enforcement. He is registered as a non-affiliated voter in North Carolina. Unaffiliated North Carolina voters have the option to choose which primary they wish to vote in. Routh voted for Democrats.
The News and Record published a report in 2002 about Ryan Routh, who barricaded himself within United Roofing and was then charged with having a weapon of mass destruction because they claimed he owned a fully automatic machine gun.
The News & Observer reported that Routh had been interviewed by Newsweek Romania in 2022 and by The New York Times in 2023 for recruiting civilian volunteers to assist Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Routh, speaking to Newsweek, said: “If the government won’t send its official military then we civilians have to take up the torch and do this.”
You can also watch a Semafor report where Routh was briefly mentioned and his efforts to recruit volunteers for Ukraine.
The NY Times:
In an interview, Routh stated that he was in Washington “for two hours” to meet with the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (also known as the Helsinki Commission) to push for increased support for Ukraine. The commission is headed by members of Congress, and its staff consists of congressional aides. The commission has a strong influence on issues of democracy and safety and is vocal about its support for Ukraine.
Routh has allegedly made smaller donations to Democrats via ActBlue. He allegedly made 19 donations between 2019 and 2020, including to individual Democratic presidential candidates, including former Rep. Beto O Rourke, (D-TX), Andrew Yang Tom Steyer, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, (DMA). He hasn’t donated to Kamala or Joe Biden.
According to what has been seen on what is believed to have been his X account he is a big supporter of Ukraine. He also makes a lot of bizarre posts. Like this one for Elon Musk.
You can see more of what appears to be his X account here. I was looking at it as it went down, so thanks to Billboard Chris for preserving it.
Here you can view more information about what appears to his X account. Billboard Chris saved it for me, as I watched it disappear.
The NY Post reports:
In an April 22, X post, when Biden was still running for reelection he advised him to run a “campaign around keeping America democratic and free.”
He said Trump wanted to “make Americans slaves and masters.”
He wrote: “DEMOCRACY on the ballot, and we cannot win,” a slogan that is often used by Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden.
Routh added, “We can’t afford to fail.” “The world depends on us to lead the way.”
He moved to Hawaii from North Carolina.
It’s not clear how he knew Trump was going to be at the course at that time, as it wasn’t listed on Trump’s schedule. That raises even more questions.
