FBI and DOJ Officials Scramble as Gaetz Emerges as AG Pick, Seek Legal Counsel

When Trump won the election, FBI officials started panicking. They feared that the president-elect would lay off thousands of people as he cleaned up the office after his endless harassment.

Now, FBI and Department of Justice officials have even more anxiety after Trump announced that former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz would be his Attorney General.

Three people familiar with their discussions say that several current and former Justice Department and FBI senior officials are reaching out to attorneys in anticipation of being criminally prosecuted by the Trump Administration.

After Trump’s election win, career Justice Department staffers and officials were already worried about being targeted by Trump supporters, especially members of Congress. Sources said that the appointment of Matt Gaetz as the new head of the department, a Trump ally and firebrand who was recently the subject of an FBI investigation, has increased the level of anxiety.

Hmm. What are they worried about if they did nothing wrong?

One official claimed he had done nothing wrong, but he expects that they will still come after him. What, I wonder if they were “aboveboard” in everything they did during the endless legal warfare against Trump?

A former FBI senior official said, “Everything that we did was legal. He has already contacted lawyers to prepare for his prosecution. But it’s a new world.”

The official who requested anonymity for fear of being targeted believes that any prosecution against him is unlikely to succeed. The judges and juries can throw out the cases or declare defendants innocent when they find prosecutions baseless.

Like many current and former Justice Department employees, he’s preparing for a long and expensive legal battle as well as the potential of lengthy congressional investigations after Trump assumes office in January.

“He is bracing for a potentially long and costly legal battle.” Do you mean, like the kind that Trump has been facing over and over again?

The Gaetz selection has raised their tension level to 11.

Former senior Justice Department officials who served in Trump’s first administration said they, too, saw Gaetz as a sign that the president-elect was serious about his vow to exact revenge against those who investigated him.

The former Justice Department official stated, “He needs to be in a position to control the Department, and he can achieve this through a loyal AG who is beholden only to him.”

It’s hard to feel any sympathy towards these criminals after watching them make a mockery out of our justice system in the last four years — and turn it into a weapon of political power. I have zero.

You will reap what you sew.
