Trump Plans Executive Order to Impose 25% Tariff on Canadian and Mexican Goods When He Takes Office

On Monday, President-elect Trump said that he will issue an executive order when he takes office charging Mexico and Canada 25% on all products entering the United States as well as further tariff increases on China due to the flow of illegal immigration and illicit drugs.

In a Truth Social posting, Trump, who will take office on January 20, 2025, stated that thousands of people “pour through” Mexico and Canada at “levels never seen before.”

He wrote: “Right Now, a Caravan from Mexico is unstoppable on its quest to enter our Open Border,” As one of my first Executive Orders on January 20, I will sign the necessary documents in order to impose a 25% tariff on ALL products entering the United States from Mexico and Canada, as well as its absurd Open Borders.

“This Tariff remains in effect until all illegal aliens and drugs, including Fentanyl in particular, stop invading our country!” He added. “Both Mexico and Canada, have the absolute power and right to solve this long-simmering issue.”

Since his first term in office, Trump has pushed Mexico to take a more proactive role in preventing illegal immigration and the flow of illicit drugs to the United States.

“And until they do that, it’s time for them to pay a big price!” He said.

In a later post, Trump announced that he would impose an additional 10% on all Chinese products imported into the U.S. due to the “massive quantities” of drugs being smuggled in, fentanyl being one example.

Trump stated that he had spoken to Chinese officials regarding the fentanyl entering the U.S. and noted that China had promised to kill drug dealers who were involved in the illegal trade.

He wrote: “Until they stop, we’ll charge China an additional 10% tariff, over and above any other Tariffs on all of China’s many products that come into the United States of America.”

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than heroin. It can be deadly in small doses and has been responsible for the deaths of many Americans from drug overdoses. Fentanyl is added to many illegal drugs to make them more potent and cheaper. Some users are unaware that they’re ingesting fentanyl.

U.S. officials claim that fentanyl, a synthetic opioid drug, is manufactured in Mexico from Chinese precursors. It is then smuggled into the United States by Mexican drug cartels.

A report by the Heritage Foundation titled “Holding China & Mexico Accountable for America’s Fentanyl Crisis” stated that “Unknown to most Americans, China’s Communist Party (CCP), actively funds, supports, and pushes America’s deadliest drug threat in its history.”

The combined forces of Mexican drug cartels and Chinese aggression have brought to the United States an unstable crisis with a death count that exceeds each year the total number of U.S. deaths from the Vietnam War.

The report reveals that chemicals arrive via air cargo, post facilities, and maritime routes. The authors also mention reports that China is playing a greater role in Canadian networks.
