New York City Mayor Eric Adams has some choice words to say about those who criticize him for his desire to work with Donald Trump, the president-elect, in order to reduce the impact of Joe Biden’s border crisis.
Adams spoke at a press conference on Tuesday about the negative impact of the border crisis on New York City, a problem that has been lingering for the last three years because the Biden Administration refused to take action to fix the issue.
He said he would work with Tom Homan who Trump nominated as his new border czar.
Adams stated, “Those here who have committed crimes, such as robberies, shootings at police officers, and raping of innocent people, are a danger to our country. I would like to sit down with them to hear their plan for how to deal with them. Those are the individuals I’m referring to, and I’d love to have a sit-down with the border czar to hear what he has to say about how we will deal with those who harm our citizens.”
A reporter inquired about Adams’ position on Trump’s plans to deport large numbers of people after he takes office. The mayor referred to how former Democratic presidents dealt with illegal immigration.
I want you all to Google Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Adams replied, “Google what they have said about criminals in our city as well as what they have said in the country.” They said that those who commit crimes should leave immediately. That was their position.
The mayor then challenged those who would try to remove him because of his willingness to collaborate with the new Trump administration.
“This isn’t a new position, because in an era where people aren’t afraid to tell the truth, this is not a novel idea. Well, you can cancel me because I will protect the citizens of the city. “If you think that you are going to harm innocent New Yorkers, innocent migrants, or innocent asylum seekers in this country and city, then this is not the Mayor you want to work under.”
It’s not surprising that a Democrat, who also happens to be the mayor of one of the most blue-eyed cities in America, would make such strong statements. It is not surprising given how the crisis has affected his city. Adams may have made overtures to Trump for this reason. He even went so far as defending him when the shrill voices on “The View”, asked if he thought Trump was a fascist.
He said that his party had gone too far. When asked if the GOP candidate is a fascist, he replied “No.”
Adams, the mayor of America’s biggest city and one of its most prominent Black officials, was speaking to reporters about the security plans for Mr. Trump’s Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden when he answered a question from a reporter asking if the former president is regarded as a fascist.
Former policeman Mr. Adams said, “I’ve had these terms hurled against me by some politicians in the city using terms such as Hitler and fascist.” “My answer is no. I am familiar with what Hitler did and what fascism looks like.
I believe, as I have repeatedly called for, that we can all dial back the conversation’s temperature.
Adams has repeatedly criticized the Biden Administration for its failure to deal with the border crisis. The crisis has pushed many illegal immigrants and asylees to the city. This has put a strain on the resources of the city.
Adams traveled to Washington, D.C., in 2023 to discuss the problem with Biden’s administration. The short version is that it didn’t work out.
The mayor went to Washington, D.C., in order to ask for help from the White House and Congress to deal with the immigration issue that New York City is facing. Adams estimated that the problem would cost New York City $12 billion in the next three years and hoped to secure federal reimbursements along with other help for asylum seekers. Biden’s administration was not very receptive to New York City’s idea.
Mayor Eric Adams painted an ominous picture of his visit to Washington, D.C., on Friday, when he asked for more financial aid for the ongoing migration crisis in New York City.
Adams met with Congressional leadership and members of Biden’s administration on Thursday.
The mayor said Washington should cover the costs of housing hundreds and thousands of migrants. He said that he had left the meetings with the “cold reality” that no help was on its way.
Adams stated that “we did not leave D.C. feeling optimistic about anything drastically changing.” It is obvious that this crisis will be carried for the moment by the cities.
He continued to say, “There is no immediate help on the way.”
It is not surprising that Adams sought the assistance of the new administration. Maybe someone like Trump who is serious in dealing with immigration could offer some assistance.
