Lara Trump Resigns from RNC Amid Growing Senate Rumors

Lara Trump resigned as co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee. She is considering replacing Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R), who her father-in-law, President-elect Trump chose to be Secretary of State.

 

Lara Trump told The Associated Press that she would “seriously consider” serving in the Senate.

 

“If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what they would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is real for me,” Trump added.

 

“But yes, I’d definitely consider it.”

 

Trump, who was elected in March to lead the RNC alongside Michael Whatley, added that Whatley would remain as RNC Chair.

 

The AP reported that Trump and the RNC invested heavily in their resources before the election, and the GOP’s success on the night can be tied in part to its work.

 

 

“What that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up,” Trump said. “What I intended to do has been done.”

 

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will select Rubio’s successor if Rubio is confirmed as the new head of the State Department. This replacement will serve until 2026 when special elections will be held to determine who will fill the two remaining years of Rubio’s term.

 

In an interview conducted on Sunday, Trump cited her “proven record” as the RNC as well as the fact that she has a last name as reasons why she should be appointed to the Senate.

 

She said of her last name on Fox News, “Some might say it is an asset and some might say it is not. It depends on your perspective.”
