Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, was hospitalized in Europe while on official taxpayer business.
The former Speaker’s staff announced Friday morning that she was hospitalized, citing “injury.”
The statement said that Nancy Pelosi, who was traveling in Luxembourg with a delegation of bipartisan politicians to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge battle, sustained an injury while on an official engagement. She was then admitted to the hospital to be evaluated.
Pelosi’s spokesperson said that while she was “currently receiving excellent treatment from physicians and medical professionals,” she continued to work, and regretted that she would not be able to attend the remaining CODEL engagements.
CODEL, or Congressional Delegation is a Capitol Hill slang term for official travel by Congressmen and Senators, their staff, or guests. Usually spouses or significant other. Reformers often criticize CODELs as nothing more than vacations paid for by taxpayers, even though congressional ethics committees must approve all trips in advance.
Announcing the hospitalization of the 84-year-old comes just one day after Mitch McConnell, another long-serving octogenarian who is a member of the Senate, was forced to remain home after a fall earlier this week.
Pelosi’s spokesperson says that she is looking forward to her return home.
