Politico reported that allies of Donald Trump were angry when Elon Musk publicly trashed a $500 billion artificial intelligence deal he had with the president, even though Trump shrugged off his remarks.
Politico reported that one Trump ally claimed Musk had abused his relationship with the president by making his comment. Another said Trump staffers are “furious” after Trump called this deal “tremendous” and “monumental”.
According to the White House, Stargate will begin building the data centers in Texas and generating the electricity needed for the development of AI, which is rapidly evolving, as well as the necessary electricity generation. SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle could provide funding that is five times as large as the initial $100 billion investment.
Trump said that the money was big and there were high-quality employees. He added that this is “a resounding statement of confidence in America’s potential” under Trump’s new administration.
Musk, who is a major supporter of Trump’s, has questioned the source of the funding
Musk responded to a partnership announcement from OpenAI on his social media platform X late Tuesday by posting “They don’t actually have the money.”
Musk stated that he was referring to SoftBank, in a subsequent X post. He said they had less than $10 billion in secured funds.
Trump told reporters the tech companies will be funding the project and that Musk’s comments didn’t bother him.
“The government’s not putting up anything. They’re putting up money. They’re very rich people, so I hope they do,” Trump said. “And, I mean, Elon doesn’t like one of those people.”
Musk and CEO Sam Altman served as co-chairs when OpenAI launched in 2015. Musk sued the company, The Washington Post reported, after leaving it, alleging that it had strayed away from its founding mission. Musk founded his own AI firm, xAI.
According to Politico, a White House official said that staff members are working with Musk to understand his ideas.
“Ideas are innovative, but execution is not,” said one employee.
