Jan. 6 Rioter Pardoned by Trump Arrested on Federal Gun Charge

Daniel Ball has been pardoned and his case regarding the Jan. 6 attack in 2021 on the Capitol was officially dismissed by President Trump on Tuesday. However, on Wednesday, Ball was arrested again on a federal firearm charge which is still pending.

This arrest warrant was the first public filing after Trump’s second tenure.

Ball was charged in May 2023 with 12 counts tied to the Capitol attack, including assaulting, resisting or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon and using explosives to commit a felony.

Prosecutors said he worked with other rioters to “violently push” against police outside the Lower West Terrace entrance. When their efforts failed, he threw an explosive device into the entrance. It detonated on 25 officers.

The judge originally planned for his trial to begin on January 6. The judge changed the date in October.

Trump has erased these charges from his record. However, Ball’s two previous convictions — for domestic violence battery by strangulation in June 2017 and battering and resisting law enforcement with violence in October 2021 — are detailed in the charging papers. He’s accused of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, around May 2023.

Ball is one of the 1,500 defendants whose charges were dismissed by Trump in his first act of presidency on Monday. A few Proud Boys and Oath Keepers leaders also saw their sentences reduced according to the time they served.
