Donald Trump, just two days after pardoning pro-life activists who were sentenced to prison, will be one of the many speakers at the annual March for Life rally, which takes place in Washington D.C. on Friday.
The organizers have estimated that around 150,000 people will march, but the weather may limit their turnout due to the continued cold winter conditions that forced Trump’s inauguration indoors.
Vice President J.D. Vance will make his first appearance in public since the inauguration celebrations on Monday.
Other scheduled speakers include Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, and keynote speaker Bethany Hamilton, professional surfer, mother, and pro-life advocate.
The March for Life will begin at 1 pm after a pre-rally concert on the National Mall.
The march will begin at the National Mall, and finish in the space between the Capitol Building and the Supreme Court.
Every year, the March for Life is held on Capitol Hill to commemorate the Supreme Court ruling in 1973 that legalized abortion across all 50 States.
Activists and organizers have focused their attention on the numerous state-level battles regarding abortion rights following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which is expected to occur in June 2022.
The official website of March for Life states that “Even after the wonderful blessing of Roe V. Wade being overturned which allows for more freedom for state levels to enact laws pro-life, the work necessary to build a culture of life in the United States of America has not been finished.”
The 23 prolife activists pardoned on Thursday by Trump were involved in the blockade and invasion of clinics in Washington, D.C., as well as New York City. Trump said, “Twenty-three people were prosecuted. They should not have been prosecuted. Many of them are elderly people. They should not have been prosecuted. This is a great honor to sign this.”
