Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security at the Department of Homeland Security, announced this week a multimillion-dollar ad campaign directed towards illegal immigrants to warn them that they would be deported by President Donald Trump if found.
The ads, which were released in a domestic as well as an international version Monday night, target both illegal immigrants already in the U.S.A. and those who are thinking about crossing the border.
“Thank you, President Donald J. Trump, for securing our border and putting America first. President Trump has a clear message: if you are here illegally, we will find you and deport you. You will never return. But if you leave now, you may have an opportunity to return and enjoy our freedom and live the American Dream,” Noem says to open the one-minute spot that will run on radio, broadcast, and digital in multiple languages and territories.
Noem had been selected by Trump in November to be the face of his signature issue, which was stemming illegal immigration. Noem announced in January that the U.S. military jail at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, would be used for the most criminal illegal immigrants rounded up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Weak politicians have opened our borders for too long. They’ve flooded our communities and put American lives in danger. Those days are gone,” Noem says in the commercial.
The campaign follows reports from last week that Trump was “angry” because more people had not been deported by Border Czar Tom Homan.
“Follow the law, and you will find opportunities. You’ll pay a price if you break the law. You have a choice. America welcomes all who respect its laws.” The domestic advertisement ends with the statement: “A strong nation is also a safe nation.”
