FCC’s Carr: Radio Station Under Fire for Exposing ICE Movements

Brendan Carr, commissioner of the FCC, confirmed that the FCC is looking into a radio station in San Francisco to see if they violated their license terms by broadcasting information about the location of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and the vehicles they were driving.

On Thursday evening Carr said, “There were many reports and complaints about the conduct, and we decided to launched an investigation,”

He added, “We have sent them a formal inquiry letter from our enforcement division, and given them one week to respond and explain how their conduct is consistent with the public interest obligation that all broadcasters must comply with. We will be monitoring this.”

Rob Finnerty, the show’s host, pointed out that KCBS was owned by Audacy. This company is backed by George Soros, a liberal billionaire.

Carr stated that the FCC should investigate the station and get more information. An investigation could result in the agency revoking its license.

Carr said, “A lot of people were concerned and we wanted to keep an eye on it to see if the same thing was happening across the country.”

Carr confirmed that the station’s name was retained after it was bought by Audacy. He also said some parts of the Soros-backed deal are still with the FCC.

“Concerning this particular station, the focus is the revealing of the specific locations and make and model of these vehicles,” said Carr.

KCBS was once owned by CBS. This is the same network that has been criticized for allegedly selectively editing an interview with Kamala Harris, a former Democrat presidential candidate.

Carr noted that while the station is no longer owned by CBS, it has kept its call sign since being bought by Audacity.

The FCC released Thursday transcripts provided by CBS News after complaints that it had engaged in election meddling after the vice president’s responses were edited to sound shorter for an interview on “60 Minutes”.

President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit for $10 billion against the network.

CBS has defended its editing, calling it a standard practice that is used for “time, space, or clarity.”

Carr told Finnerty, “The Biden-era FCC dismissed the complaint about news distortion without even getting a copy of the transcript. I’m not sure how you do that. I don’t know how you can adjudicate this without seeing it.”

He added that the FCC had opened an investigation, which will ensure transparency.

Carr stated that people can express their opinions to the FCC. We will take it step-by-step. There’s no doubt that CBS has been engaging in conduct that raises some red flags. They interviewed Vice President J.D. Vance and immediately released the entire, unedited transcription. It took them until after the elections to release the transcript with [former] vice president Harris.”
