Deterring China is a top priority in Congress for the House’s number four Republican.
Michigan Rep. Lisa McClain is the GOP conference chairwoman. She has introduced legislation to expose the assets of CCP top officials and prohibit them from accessing U.S. banks if China decides to invade Taiwan.
The bill requires the Treasury Secretary to reveal details of illegal assets owned by Chinese officials and to “expose the entire cast” so that the public can see where the money comes from.
Since the 1960s, America has operated under an intentionally vague policy of “One China”, which supports Taiwan through military assistance but does not say if America will defend Taiwan in case China invades.
This is deterrence. McClain said that the U.S. could not risk an invasion in Taiwan, which would disrupt our vital supply chains. We need to continue to put pressure on China, and we must remember that China is not our friend.
McClain’s legislation was dropped as President Donald Trump declared another 10% tariffs on Chinese products – the most recent shot in an escalating war of trade. Canada and Mexico are also facing another 10% of tariffs.
Last month, the president introduced minimum tariffs of 10% on Chinese imports. The president had proposed tariffs of 25% for Mexico and Canada, but they were postponed after the promise that both countries would step up their border enforcement. Trump, however, said that the two nations are still doing too little to fight drug trafficking.

Drugs are flooding our country at a very high level from Mexico and Canada. This is unacceptable. Trump stated that a large portion of the drugs in question, mainly in the form of fentanyl, are manufactured and imported from China.
China has, however, warned that there will be “no winner” in the trade war with the U.S. and has insisted on aggressively tackling fentanyl in favor of the U.S.
China is putting in a great deal of resources, including human and material, to help the United States address its fentanyl problem. This was done out of compassion and kindness to the U.S. citizens and because of the country’s responsibility. Yang Pang is the second secretary of fentanyl, law enforcement, and China’s response to this crisis. He told U.S. Journalists last week that China was genuine in its efforts and not self-serving.
She said that China had given more than 10,000 pieces of “information” about online platforms involved in fentanyl trading to the U.S. counterpart.
U.S. Intelligence officials believe that 2027 will be the year in which China can invade Taiwan on a large scale. In recent years, China has increased its presence in Taiwanese territorial waters through threatening military displays.

Taiwan sent its air, naval, and land forces to China’s 40-nautical-mile coast on Wednesday following the launch of a Chinese live-fire training zone. Taiwan claims that it observed 32 Chinese aircraft participating in joint drills with warships. Chinese officials have yet to acknowledge Taiwan’s complaint.
Wang Huning – the CCP’s fourth highest ranking leader – called days earlier for more “reunification efforts”. China maintains that Taiwan has been a Beijing-controlled rebel territory for many years.
Huning, who spoke for the Chinese government, said that China should “firmly grasp and take initiative in the cross-strait relationship and unwaveringly advance the cause of the reunification motherland.”
On Tuesday, Taiwan’s Coast Guard detained the Chinese crew of a Togolese-registered vessel suspected of severing an undersea fiber optic cable connecting the islands of Taiwan and Penghu.
