Biden Administration Suppressed Study Showing LNG Exports Don’t Harm Climate Goals

The left is always talking about how “science” is the only thing that matters, but when the data contradicts a hypothesis you have to change it. The Biden administration did not do this. They would rather conceal inconvenient information.

An exclusive report by the Daily Caller reveals, for example, that the Biden Administration buried a study on LNG exports that was inconvenient and would have eliminated the main reason behind the administration’s LNG ban.

Four Department of Energy sources claim that the Biden administration intentionally buried the final draft of a study that would have undermined their January 2024 decision of pausing approvals of LNG export projects.

Former President Joe Biden and former Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced the LNG ban in January 2024. They stated that the freeze would be in effect until the DOE conducted a new study on the economic and climate impacts of LNG export expansion. According to sources within the Trump DOE who were granted anonymity to discuss sensitive matters, the Biden DOE completed a study draft in 2023. It was then buried because its findings would have been contrary to the administration’s reasoning for the LNG export freeze.

The LNG freeze was unjustified for many reasons. For example, natural gas is cleaner than oil or coal, both of which are still used in large parts of the world for power generation, home heating, and other purposes. However, the hiding of an important study that contradicted Biden’s administration’s reasoning for the LNG ban is shocking. It was not about the data but about the agenda. Climate change was one of the reasons cited by the Biden administration to justify the LNG ban.

Here is the onion:

Trump DOE sources informed the DCNF that the Biden DOE was close to completing the final draft of the LNG impact study by September 2023. This version would be ready to present to Biden officials soon after. DOE sources told DCNF that this particular version of the study found that increased U.S. LNG imports would reduce global emissions compared to other scenarios.

Granholm’s final version of the report, released in December 2024 to the public, argued that an increase in LNG exports would result in increased global greenhouse gas emissions.

At the end of September 2023, a Biden administration official left a comment on the final draft version that instructed others to halt work on it until further notice, despite other language in the document stating that the final version was to be published sometime around the end of September 2023, Trump DOE sources told the DCNF. That version of the study was never released publicly, and the Biden DOE considered it to be a “working document” given that the agency subsequently categorized it as part of an internal deliberative process, according to DOE sources.

The thumbnail? The draft report showed that the opposite was true. The Biden Department filed the report.

This stinker starts with deceptive practices. The administration claimed that the export ban would harm domestic energy development. This claim was not just false; the administration also knew it to be false and had the data to prove it. They implemented the ban despite this, citing “climate changes.”

Second, the Biden Administration hid the results of a study funded by taxpayers and lied about them to the American public.

The final layer? The Democrats completely ignored the standard Democrat shibboleth “trust the science,” but Democrats have never really been about science – the data. This episode is only one of many examples.

As we all know, President Trump has lifted the LNG ban. The American energy industry is starting to move again. The more we discover about the Biden administration’s behind-the-scenes activities, the more it becomes clear that we avoided not just a bullet, but a whole ammunition factory when Kamala Harris was defeated by Donald Trump in 2024.
