Linda McMahon is the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment. She was officially sworn in to be the Secretary of Education for President Donald Trump; however, he wants to close down the Department “immediately”.
On Monday night, 51-45 along party lines, the Senate approved McMahon as the head of the Department of Education. This was the last hurdle in her confirmation process.
McMahon took her oath of office shortly after the election and began to perform official duties Tuesday morning.
“I am grateful that President Trump has trusted me with the position of Secretary of Education in his cabinet. I am ready to lead this Department during these transformative times and to embrace the challenges to improve education for more than 100,000,000 children and students in college who deserve better”, McMahon stated in a press release after her confirmation.
Education is the key to our nation’s success, and it prepares American workers for the future. McMahon said that every decision taken at the Department would be driven by an effort to empower students, teachers, and families. We will give states and districts more power to decide what works on the ground in terms of students, rather than bureaucratic directives coming from Washington, D.C.
Trump said that he wanted to shut down the Education Department. McMahon said in a note to Democratic legislators that she supported his position.
President Trump is of the opinion that Washington bureaucracy should be eliminated so we can bring education back to the state level, where it belongs. McMahon, in a letter to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, wrote: “I wholeheartedly agree and support this mission.”
McMahon is the former CEO of WWE, which she co-founded with her husband, Vince McMahon.
Former WWE mogul, who launched separate Senate campaigns for Connecticut both in 2010 and 2012. He lost to Democratic candidates in the general election.
During Trump’s first administration, the secretary also served as administrator of the Small Business Association.
