The left, and frankly some misguided conservatives, seem to believe that just because President Trump makes a statement, it automatically reflects reality. But facts don’t care about your feelings, and the facts about these alleged trade talks are clear.
First, President Trump claimed that “everything’s active” regarding negotiations with China. But here’s where the logic breaks down. If active negotiations were truly taking place, we would see concrete evidence – scheduled meetings, official statements from both sides, or at least some form of diplomatic engagement. None of that exists.
China has explicitly denied that any such talks are occurring. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman – and let’s be clear, in a totalitarian regime like China, official spokespeople don’t just freelance their opinions – stated unequivocally that claims of progress are, and I quote, “groundless as trying to catch the wind.”
Now, let’s examine the facts. The U.S. has imposed 145% tariffs on Chinese imports. China retaliated with 125% tariffs on U.S. products. These are objective, verifiable numbers. The idea that substantial progress is being made while these punitive measures remain in place is absurd on its face.
China has made it abundantly clear that any negotiations must involve the complete cancellation of all U.S. tariffs. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of negotiation strategy. If we capitulate to this demand, we lose all leverage. It’s Negotiation 101, something the left seems incapable of grasping.
In conclusion, the notion of active, productive trade talks with China is a leftist fantasy. The data clearly shows ongoing economic conflict, not cooperation. And that’s something the China apologists on the left simply cannot refute, no matter how much they wish it were true.
