Democrats Demand Access to Private Signal Chats in Escalating Investigation

Axios reports that Democrats from the House Oversight Committee sent letters to seven participants who were not among the main players of the Signal group chat. They asked them to come in for an interview.

According to Axios, Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Democratic Party ranking member, sent the letters in an investigation of the breach that occurred when the editor of a magazine posted a comment on the thread discussing military plans against Houthi terrorists.

According to Axios,

  • Stephen Miller, White House Deputy chief of staff
  • Alex Wong is Mike Waltz’s deputy, who serves as national security advisor
  • Mike Needham is the Chief of Staff for Secretary of State Marco Rubio
  • Joe Kent is the acting chief of staff to Tulsi Gabard, Director of National Intelligence
  • Walker Barrett, Senior director of the National Security Council
  • Dan Katz is chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent
  • Brian McCormack, the Chief of Staff at the National Security Council.

Connolly wrote in each letter: “As it has been reported that you participated in the Houthi small-group chat on the PC, we require your participation in a transcription of an interview to examine your involvement in this incident, as well as any other potentially reckless disclosures of highly sensitive national security information. “

The White House said on Monday that it had completed its investigation into The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg’s claim that Waltz invited him to join the group discussion.

Some Republican lawmakers, however, call for further investigations to determine how the mishap occurred.

Last week, the chair of the Armed Services Committee, Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), said he asked the Pentagon to investigate the use of the Signal following the attack.

James Lankford, a Republican from Oklahoma, said the Pentagon inspector general should investigate this issue.

According to the report, House Democrats will ask seven participants to confirm their participation within the next two weeks and to sit for individual interviews on different dates in this month and in May.
