Prince Harry Denied Security Protection for UK Visits in Court Ruling

Prince Harry is the son of King Charles III. He lost his appeal on Friday to restore his security when visiting the U.K.

Harry’s current security situation is unchanged by the decision. When Harry visits Britain, state-funded police protection may be provided.

Harry has won his multi-year-long legal challenge against the U.K. Government 2020 decision that denied the family of the Duchess of Sussex and Meghan taxpayer-funded protection after they had stepped down as working royals.

RAVEC, a committee which oversees the protection of royals and public figures in the UK, also denied Harry’s request for him to pay for the security of his family.

Last year, a London judge ruled that the U.K. was entitled to deny Harry, the younger sibling of King Charles III a security detail during his visit to Britain.

In a summary, the judge said that Harry’s arguments were “powerful”, “moving” and that it was “clear that the Duke felt bad treated by the system.”

He added, “I concluded, after studying all the documents, that I could not say that the duke’s grievances were translated into a legal argument that would challenge RAVEC’s decision. The duke was in and out RAVEC’s protection cohort. His security in the U.K. was considered adequate.”

“It’s impossible to call this reasoning illogical or inappropriate,” he said. “It seems reasonable. “

Harry is yet to comment about the decision.

Harry’s lawyers argued in court hearings held in April that Harry is facing security threats. They said this includes those from al-Qaeda, who have, according to them, called for his murder.

Harry is the fifth heir to the British throne. He has said in the past that he does not want to bring his family to his homeland because of security concerns.

Harry’s lawyer, Shaheed Fatima KC, told the court in closing remarks last month that Harry’s life was at stake.

Fatima said, “There is a person in front of me whose life, safety and security are at risk.” “There is a person in front of me who has been told he’ll be receiving a specially tailored process. However, he already knows and experienced a process that is clearly inferior. “

Harry traveled to England alone, without Meghan or any other member of the royal family to attend court, last month.

Harry, Meghan and their children Archie, Lilibet, and Archie’s father, William, had moved from London to California after they had retired as senior royals.

The family is believed to have not visited the U.K. in 2022, when they attended the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

The Sussexes, who moved to California in 2007, have been relying on a private security company.
