GOP Megabill in Trouble? Party Insiders Warn Changes Could Doom It

Senate Republicans are currently playing a high-stakes game of ‘pass the parcel’ with President Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been cheering for this bill from the get-go. But some in our party are predicting a DOA scenario once the Senate Majority Leader, John Thune, puts it up for a vote next week.

Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin has already admitted, “My guess is it will fail”. Now, he doesn’t want it to fail, nor do we. The last thing we need is for our party to sabotage Trump’s efforts.

Thune’s target is to pass this bill by July 4th – a nice patriotic touch there! But the legislative text released on Monday, concerning taxes, healthcare, among other policy stuff, has shown that there’s still a mountain to climb.

Senators like Rand Paul and Johnson, the fiscal hawks, insist that the bill doesn’t do enough to slash the deficit. Then we have others worried about the proposed cuts to Medicare. Yes, folks, you heard it right! They’re worried about cutting a program that’s a DISASTER in its current form.

Some lawmakers are also against the bill’s proposed cuts to clean-energy incentives and Trump’s planned tax cuts. They would rather have us pay more taxes and subsidize some ‘green’ boondoggle than pass a bill that could help Americans prosper.

Republicans only have three votes to spare. The Senate leaders are hoping to cast their first vote on this bill next week with the intention of passing it over the weekend. However, some committees still haven’t received final estimates or rulings from the Senate parliamentarian. So, guess what? When the bill comes up for a vote, it might lack some provisions that they want.

Vice President JD Vance, along with other Republican senators, is pushing hard to meet the July 4 deadline. Lobbyists are also concerned that the bill, in its current form, won’t make it through either the House or Senate. It’s clear that this bill is still a work in progress and will likely go through several revisions.

Changes are coming. The Republicans will have to shift policy to secure votes. There are significant dollars at stake here! Now, whether they’ll resort to deep cuts in some policy areas, well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

The GOP needs to get its house in order, stop bickering, and start delivering on the promises made to the American people.
