Sen. Fetterman Supports Israel’s Bold Strike on Iran

Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, voiced his firm backing for Israel’s attack on Iranian nuclear and military facilities. He asserted that the U.S.’s commitment to defending its foremost ally in the Middle East “must be absolute.”

Fetterman expressed his support through a post on X, stating that he fully endorses the attack. He also urged the elimination of the Iranian leadership and the nuclear personnel. He further emphasized that the U.S. should provide whatever is necessary, military, intelligence, and weaponry, to fully support Israel in dealing with Iran.

Fetterman has been one of the most vocal advocates for Israel within the Democratic Party in the Senate, a stance that has drawn ire from progressives within his party. These critics see his position as a counter to their movement, including those advocating for a ceasefire in the conflict.

The significance becomes clear when we consider that Fetterman has been a sharp critic of the Biden administration’s approach to Israel, expressing disappointment in May 2024 when President Joe Biden threatened to withhold some arms supplies to the Jewish state.

Earlier this month, Fetterman praised President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal with Iran in his first term. He also indicated to The Washington Free Beacon that he believed the Trump administration should dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities through a military strike.

The U.S. has been engaged in discussions with Iran since April regarding a new deal for its nuclear program. Israel’s strikes, which took place Thursday night, coincide with an apparent deadlock in these talks. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff was scheduled to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Oman for a sixth round of talks on Sunday.
