South Carolina Wins Key Battle to Defund Planned Parenthood

The good news keeps rolling in, this time from the Supreme Court. They’ve just put the kibosh on one of the Left’s sacred cows, Planned Parenthood and its insatiable thirst for taxpayer dollars. The court has cleared the way for South Carolina to cut off Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid funding. It’s a glorious day, and proof that common sense can still prevail in this country.

The liberal elites and their abortion-loving pals are in a tizzy, not just because they lost this round, but because the court’s ruling strengthens the efforts of Republican states to keep public money out of the hands of abortion providers. Also, the court overruled a lower court’s decision trying to stop South Carolina from ending Planned Parenthood’s participation in Medicaid. The lower court tried to protect Planned Parenthood’s cash flow, but the Supreme Court wasn’t having it.

This isn’t just about abortion. It’s about the right of states to decide where their taxpayer dollars go. After the Supreme Court tossed out the Roe v. Wade ruling, several Republican-led states, like South Carolina, have taken a stand against abortion. They’re implementing restrictions or outright bans, much to the dismay of the Left.

Planned Parenthood isn’t just in the abortion business. They operate clinics in cities like Charleston and Columbia, serving hundreds of Medicaid patients each year. But when Republican Governor Henry McMaster ordered the termination of Planned Parenthood’s participation in the state Medicaid program, the organization cried foul and sued.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services didn’t back down. They stood firm, backed by President Donald Trump’s administration, and fought back. A federal judge initially ruled in Planned Parenthood’s favor, but the Supreme Court saw through the smoke screen.
