It’s high time we talk about something the drive-by media WON’T address. You’ve got Supreme Court Justices raking in millions from book deals and cozy teaching gigs. Yes, my friends, even those in our nation’s highest judicial body aren’t immune to the lure of the almighty dollar.
Take Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, for instance. The woman pulled in a whopping $2 million advance for her memoir. That’s a lot of cheddar. And that comes hot on the heels of a previously reported $893,750 advance for the same book. But hey, who’s counting?
She wasn’t alone. Justices Gorsuch and Sotomayor also reported hefty book royalty incomes. Gorsuch came in with over $250,000 and Sotomayor nearly $74,000. And that’s not to mention Sotomayor’s tidy $60,000 advance for a children’s book set to release in September. Who knew being on the Supreme Court came with such lucrative side gigs?
And let’s not overlook the cushy teaching roles. Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett raked in over $30,000 each from various law schools. Teaching just two-week courses! If that doesn’t scream ‘sweet deal’, I don’t know what does.
And what of Chief Justice John Roberts? He too co-taught a two-week course in Ireland. But the best part? We don’t know how much he was paid because it didn’t fall within the reporting year.
But here’s the kicker: these disclosures come amidst scrutiny over ethics questions following revelations that some of these justices failed to report luxury trips and hobnobbing with wealthy benefactors. Sounds like a real ethical quagmire.
The liberals will try to tell you that this is all above board. After all, they adopted their first code of conduct in 2023. But let me ask you this: does a code of conduct matter if there’s no enforcement? If the Justices themselves are left to decide when to recuse from cases? Sounds like the fox guarding the henhouse.
We need to keep a watchful eye on those who are supposed to uphold the law. The American people deserve transparency, not lucrative book deals and undisclosed luxury trips. It’s high time our Supreme Court Justices remember they’re supposed to serve justice, not their bank accounts.
