Trump Announces Breakthrough Trade Agreement With China

President Donald Trump, in a recent conversation with China’s President Xi Jinping, indicated that a preliminary agreement has been reached with China on the longstanding trade dispute. This declaration, however, came with a caveat – the deal is yet to be finalized with several points still requiring resolution.

“I think we’re in good shape with China and the trade deal: We have a deal with China, as you know, but we’re straightening out some of the points having mostly to do with rare-earth magnets and some other matters,” stated Trump during a press gathering in the Oval Office. The President further noted that despite the reduction in trade tariff rates, they remain in effect.

The preliminary agreement follows months of negotiations, with both nations imposing heavy tariffs on each other. It has been reported that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and China’s top officials will convene soon to finalize the details of the agreement.

“We’ve had a deal,” Trump continued. “We announced the deal. And we’ll be, I guess you could say, I wouldn’t even say finalizing it up, Scott, I would say we have a deal and we’re going to just make sure that everybody understands what the deal is.”

President Trump recounted his call with President Xi, mentioning that both leaders have accepted invitations to visit each other’s countries. “We had a really good conversation, by the way,” Trump stated. “He invited me to China and I invited him here. We both accepted. So I’ll be going there with the first lady at a certain point, and he’ll be coming here hopefully with the first lady of China.”

“Chinese students are coming,” Trump said. “No problem, no problem. OK? “It’s our honor to have them. Frankly, look, we want to have we want to have foreign students, but we want them to be checked.”
