Reports from Los Angeles indicate that a residential fire, fueled by active fireworks, has left one woman in critical condition and required the response of over 100 firefighters.
According to reliable sources, the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the Pacoima neighborhood. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of active fireworks inside a detached garage, which had spread to three one-story homes and threatened nearby brush.
A 33-year-old woman was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Additionally, a 68-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation but declined medical transport. The fire department also reports that several animals were injured in the blaze.
Eyewitness accounts describe the scene as chaotic. One area resident stated, “It felt like an explosion … the fireworks started going off and sooner or later all these fires started coming.” This raises important questions about the safety of fireworks in residential areas.
It took more than 100 firefighters nearly an hour to contain the fire. A fourth home and a vehicle sustained damage. The Los Angeles Fire Department HazMat and arson investigators, along with the LAPD Bomb Squad and the Mayor’s Crisis Team, have responded to the scene.
