The National Republican Senatorial Committee has issued a strong rebuke against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton following the announcement of his impending divorce from state Senator Angela Paxton.
NRSC spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez stated, “What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting.” The committee, which typically supports incumbent senators, has expressed solidarity with Angela Paxton as she moves to end their 38-year marriage.
Senator Angela Paxton announced her decision to divorce on what she termed “biblical grounds,” citing adultery in her legal filing. Reports indicate the couple has been living separately for over a year. The senator stated, “I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” but concluded that remaining in the marriage would not honor her religious beliefs or her family.
Ken Paxton, who is challenging incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the 2026 Republican primary, has faced a series of legal and political challenges. These include impeachment by the Texas House in 2023, from which he was later acquitted by the state Senate, and allegations of extramarital affairs that surfaced during his trial.
This development occurs as Ken Paxton continues his bid for the U.S. Senate. The attorney general’s campaign reports raising $2.9 million in the second quarter of 2025, while Senator Cornyn entered the same period with $5.7 million on hand. The significance of this should not be overlooked, as it may influence voter perceptions in the upcoming primary.
Supporters of Ken Paxton point to his resilience in overcoming legal challenges and his continued electoral success. Critics, including the NRSC, argue that these personal issues raise questions about his character and fitness for higher office.
This divorce may play a role in the ongoing Senate race. However, the full impact on Ken Paxton’s political future remains to be seen. As always, voters must stay informed and consider all aspects of a candidate’s record when making their decisions.
