Jack Smith Reportedly Under Investigation

Jack Smith, the former special counsel who supervised two criminal inquiries into President Donald Trump, is now the subject of an investigation by the Office of Special Counsel, according to reports from the New York Post.

These reports indicate that the focus of the probe is on Smith’s conduct. His inquiries into Trump covered the handling of classified documents as well as alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Both cases were dismissed following Trump’s election in 2024 and Smith’s subsequent resignation.

The Hatch Act Unit, responsible for enforcing laws that limit the political activities of government employees, is reviewing Smith’s conduct. This development follows earlier reports that Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, took to social media to accuse Smith of attempting to sabotage Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

According to Cotton, “Jack Smith’s legal actions were nothing more than a tool for the Biden and Harris campaigns. This isn’t just unethical, it is very likely illegal campaign activity from a public office.” He further alleged that Smith’s actions were not standard, necessary, or justified, but rather the tactics of a political actor posing as a public official.

Smith, Cotton claims, pushed for a “rushed” trial for Trump, with jury selection scheduled to commence a mere two weeks before the Iowa caucuses. He also alleges that Smith filed a “procedurally irregular” brief last September, less than two months before the election, which was covered extensively by the press to Trump’s detriment.
