Brett James, 57, was a prolific songwriter with a career spanning more than two decades. He is credited with writing or co-writing hundreds of songs, including the Grammy-winning hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel” performed by Carrie Underwood. His contributions to country and pop music extended to works for artists such as Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, and Jason Aldean.
James, born in Columbia, Missouri, in 1968, had established himself as a cornerstone of the Nashville songwriting community. His loss will undoubtedly be felt deeply within the music industry.
The Macon County Sheriff’s Office reports that while the crash occurred on property adjacent to a local elementary school, all students and staff are safe. This raises important questions about flight paths and safety measures in proximity to populated areas.
Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the cause of the crash, with the NTSB taking the lead. As of now, the reasons behind this tragic event remain unclear.
