The left is once again playing political theater with your tax dollars, and I’m going to explain exactly why they’re wrong. Let’s say, hypothetically, that you’re running a household budget. You don’t suddenly demand a complete restructuring of your family’s healthcare system before paying the electric bill. But that’s precisely what the Democrats are doing right now.

Speaker Mike Johnson, in a closed-door call with House Republicans, just laid out the cold, hard truth: we’re likely heading for a government shutdown on October 1st. And let’s be clear – this isn’t because Republicans failed to do their job. The House, under Republican leadership, has already passed a completely reasonable stopgap funding bill that would keep the government running until November 21st.

But here’s where the left’s logic completely falls apart. The Democrats are refusing to support this bill unless Republicans cave to their demands on healthcare reform. This is, frankly, absurd. Let me explain why.

First, the funding levels in the Republican bill are essentially identical to what Democrats supported under Biden just last fiscal year. These are objective, verifiable facts. The left’s sudden opposition isn’t about the numbers – it’s about political posturing.

If A) The funding levels are the same as what Democrats previously supported, and B) The bill is merely a temporary measure to allow for proper FY 2026 negotiations, then C) The Democrats’ opposition is purely political theater.

The Senate requires 60 votes to advance this funding bill. That means Democrats, who are needed to reach this threshold, are actively choosing to shut down the government rather than pass a clean funding bill at levels they previously supported.

House GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain is absolutely right to insist Republicans keep the focus on federal funding rather than being drawn into a broader healthcare debate. Because that’s what this is really about, Democrats trying to change the subject from their own obstructionism.

The facts don’t care about Chuck Schumer’s feelings. They don’t care about Democrat talking points. And they certainly don’t care about the left’s attempt to reframe this debate. What matters are the numbers, the precedents, and the logical progression of events that have led us to this moment.
