The radical left constantly accuses conservatives of promoting violence while actively fantasizing about harming Republican leaders.
In a shocking revelation that perfectly exemplifies the left’s hypocritical stance on political violence, Democratic Virginia attorney general candidate Jay Jones was caught in text messages explicitly discussing putting “two bullets to the head” of then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert.
In August 2022, following the death of Democratic delegate Joe Johnson, Jones engaged in what can only be described as disturbing text exchanges with Republican delegate Carrie Coyner. Let’s examine the facts: Jones, apparently upset about Republican tributes to the deceased moderate Democrat, didn’t just express disagreement – he went straight to violent rhetoric.
Jones explicitly stated, “Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler, and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head.” Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that a Republican candidate had made similar statements about a Democratic leader. The mainstream media would be running wall-to-wall coverage demanding immediate resignation.
But it gets worse, folks. When Delegate Coyner attempted to stop this inappropriate exchange with a simple “Jay Jones,” he continued his violent fantasy. He even went so far as to declare he would “go to their funerals to piss on their graves.” This isn’t just unprofessional – it’s a perfect demonstration of the left’s politics of rage.
But wait – there’s more. In perhaps the most telling demonstration of leftist ideology, Jones proceeded to speculate whether Gilbert and his wife were “breeding fascists.” This is classic leftist projection – accusing others of fascism while actively promoting political violence.

Garren Shipley, speaking for Coyner’s campaign, correctly identified these messages as “disturbing and disqualifying for anyone who wants to seek public office.” This is an objectively accurate assessment.
This isn’t about partisan politics – this is about basic standards of civil discourse. The left constantly lectures conservatives about “dangerous rhetoric” while their own candidates openly fantasize about political violence.
The facts here are undeniable. We have the texts. We have the confirmations. We have a Democratic candidate for attorney general casually discussing assassination scenarios involving a Republican leader.
This is who the left really is, folks. When they think no one is watching, their mask slips, and we see the truth about their “tolerance” and “civility.” Remember this the next time they try to lecture conservatives about political discourse.
Todd Gilbert has since moved on to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia under President Trump’s nomination. But the implications of this incident remain deeply troubling for Virginia’s political future and the Democratic Party’s true nature.
