The facts here are straightforward and deeply disturbing. On November 5, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Buffalo attempted to detain Irgi, an illegal immigrant from Turkey who had been released into the United States by the Biden administration without proper vetting. The encounter quickly escalated when Irgi violently resisted arrest, attempted to grab an officer’s taser, and began screaming “Allahu Akbar” while fighting with law enforcement.
Let’s be clear about the timeline and the policy failures that enabled this situation.
Border Patrol agents initially arrested Irgi on July 7, 2023, after he illegally crossed the border from Mexico near Jamul, California. Despite Turkey’s well-documented connections to terrorist organizations and the obvious national security concerns that should accompany any illegal border crosser from such a region, the Biden administration made the inexplicable decision to release him into the American interior without conducting proper vetting procedures.
This represents a catastrophic failure of the federal government’s most basic responsibility: protecting American citizens.
After his release, Irgi did exactly what immigration enforcement advocates have been warning about for years. He traveled freely throughout the United States and embarked on a violent crime spree spanning multiple states. On March 19, he was charged with assault in Pennsauken, New Jersey. While that charge was ultimately dismissed on April 4, Irgi wasted no time continuing his criminal activities. On the very same day his New Jersey charge was dismissed, he was arrested again in Philadelphia and charged with strangulation, simple assault, and reckless endangerment.
Read those charges again: strangulation, assault, reckless endangerment. These are serious, violent offenses that put American lives at risk.
When ICE officers finally conducted their targeted operation in Tonawanda on November 5, they observed Irgi driving away from a residence. The subsequent attempt to detain him resulted in the violent confrontation where he attempted to disarm an officer and invoked religious rhetoric while resisting arrest.
The logical questions here are obvious. Why was an illegal immigrant from a country with known terrorism connections released without vetting? Why was he allowed to remain in the country after his first assault charge? How many more cases like this exist that the American public has not heard about?
The Biden administration’s border policies have created a system where dangerous individuals can enter the country illegally, be released without proper screening, commit violent crimes, and continue to evade consequences until they escalate to even more dangerous behavior. This is not compassionate immigration policy. This is reckless endangerment of American citizens on a systemic scale.
Every assault Irgi committed after July 7, 2023, was entirely preventable. Every American who encountered him after that date was placed at unnecessary risk because the federal government failed to enforce existing immigration law and failed to conduct basic security screenings.
The American people deserve better than a border policy that prioritizes the interests of illegal immigrants over the safety of citizens.
