There’s something deeply broken when American college students mourn the death of a brutal theocratic dictator while the people he oppressed throw street parties. But that’s exactly what happened this weekend after Operation Epic Fury took out Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Columbia University Apartheid Divest, the same anti-Israel group that’s been making campus life miserable for Jewish students, posted “Marg bar Amrika” on social media Saturday. That’s Persian for “Death to America,” in case you were wondering about the translation. These aren’t fringe lunatics scrawling manifestos in basements. They’re students at one of America’s most prestigious universities, supposedly our best and brightest, openly calling for America’s destruction.
When X forced them to delete the post to regain access to their account, did they apologize? Did they claim it was a mistake or that their account got hacked? Nope. They doubled down, saying “the sentiment still stands.” At least they’re honest about hating the country that gives them the freedom to spew this garbage without getting thrown off a building.
The timing makes it even more grotesque. President Trump confirmed Khamenei’s death following a massive joint military operation with Israel that targeted the Islamic regime’s leadership. This wasn’t some reckless adventure. This was eliminating a threat that’s been funding terrorism, building nuclear weapons, and chanting their own “Death to America” slogans for over four decades. The man was responsible for countless American deaths, from Marines in Beirut to contractors in Iraq to the ongoing support of every terrorist group in the Middle East.
While Columbia’s radicals posted their condolences to tyranny, actual Iranians were celebrating in the streets. Reports flooded in from around the world showing Iranians dancing, cheering, and openly rejoicing that Khamenei was finally gone. Think about that contrast for a second. The people who actually lived under this monster’s rule are thrilled he’s dead. Meanwhile, privileged American kids who’ve never missed a meal or feared secret police are mourning him.
Trump made clear that while he won’t formally call this a war, the objective remains eliminating threats to America and our allies. He’s also hinted he knows exactly who could replace Khamenei, suggesting this isn’t just about taking out one bad guy. It’s about creating space for the Iranian people to reclaim their country from the mullahs who’ve held them hostage since 1979. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has echoed similar sentiments, linking the military campaign to broader regime change dynamics.
This gets to the heart of what’s wrong with elite universities today. They’ve become breeding grounds for anti-American sentiment dressed up as social justice. These students have been so thoroughly marinated in leftist ideology that they literally cannot distinguish between America and Iran when it comes to moral authority. They see American power as the ultimate evil while giving a pass to actual theocratic fascists who hang gay people from cranes and shoot women for not wearing hijabs correctly.
The Columbia group’s full name tells you everything. Columbia University Apartheid Divest. They’ve adopted the language of South African apartheid to describe Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East where Arab citizens vote and serve in parliament. Meanwhile, they’re running interference for a regime that stones women and funds Hamas. The intellectual dishonesty is staggering, but it’s what happens when feelings replace facts in the classroom.
You know what really gets me? These same students will lecture you about human rights and oppression while literally siding with oppressors. Iranian women have been protesting for years, risking their lives for basic freedoms. The regime has killed thousands of its own people for demanding change. And when America finally helps remove the man responsible, Columbia students respond with “Death to America.” The irony would be funny if it weren’t so dangerous.
This isn’t just about one student group at one university. It’s a symptom of how far academic institutions have drifted from reality. When your education leads you to sympathize with theocratic murderers over your own country, something has gone catastrophically wrong. These universities aren’t teaching critical thinking anymore. They’re indoctrinating students into viewing America as history’s villain regardless of who we’re fighting or why.
The Iranian people deserve better than Khamenei. American students deserve better than the propaganda they’re being fed. And frankly, America deserves better than watching our elite institutions churn out graduates who hate the country that made their comfortable lives possible.
