Joy Reid Would Rather Abandon Israel Than Win Another Election

Joy Reid has finally said the quiet part out loud, and honestly, we should be thanking her for the clarity. The former MSNBC host announced she won’t vote for any Democrat who refuses to pledge an end to America’s relationship with Israel. Not reform it. Not reconsider it. End it completely.

Let that sink in for a moment. We’re talking about abandoning our most reliable democratic ally in the Middle East, a nation that shares our values and stands as the only functioning democracy in a region dominated by theocracies and dictatorships. This isn’t policy disagreement anymore. This is something far more troubling.

During her podcast interview with author Ta-Nehisi Coates, Reid didn’t mince words. She claimed both parties are “married to this Israel over everything” philosophy, suggesting the U.S. relationship with Israel represents some kind of moral failing that requires complete severance. She praised what she called a “Mamdani-style event” as the only thing that could push Democrats away from supporting Israel, whatever that means in her increasingly disconnected worldview.

The irony here is rich enough to choke on. Reid and Coates spent their conversation analyzing why Arab-Americans and Muslim-Americans voted for Donald Trump, pinning it on anger at the Biden-Harris administration’s Israel policy. They’re not wrong about the voting patterns. But their solution? Double down on the extremism that’s already fracturing the Democratic coalition.

You know what’s actually happening here? The progressive left has become so consumed by identity politics and performative activism that they’ve lost the ability to think strategically about American interests. Israel isn’t perfect. No nation is. But the idea that we should terminate our relationship with the only country in the Middle East where Christians, Muslims, and Jews can worship freely, where women have equal rights, and where democratic elections actually matter is beyond absurd.

This represents the logical endpoint of a political movement that measures morality in Twitter likes and TikTok views rather than real-world consequences. Reid’s ultimatum isn’t brave or principled. It’s the political equivalent of taking your ball and going home because the game isn’t going your way.

The Democratic Party now faces a choice that Reid has helpfully clarified. They can either cater to voices demanding they abandon a seventy-plus year alliance with Israel, or they can remember that governing requires making decisions based on national security interests, not the loudest voices in the room. Spoiler alert: most Americans, including most Democrats, still understand why Israel matters.

What Reid doesn’t seem to grasp is that her position isn’t just bad foreign policy. It’s electoral poison. Swing voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin aren’t clamoring for America to cut ties with Israel. They’re worried about their paychecks, their kids’ schools, and whether their neighborhoods are safe.

This is what happens when a political movement prioritizes ideological purity over winning elections. Reid has essentially announced she’s willing to let Republicans win rather than support Democrats who maintain America’s strategic interests abroad. That’s not conviction. That’s political suicide dressed up as principle, and the American people can see right through it.
