While morgues overflowed and families said goodbye to loved ones through iPad screens, America’s top health official was cataloging his celebrity status like a teenager counting Instagram followers.

Paul, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee, made these diaries public ahead of Fauci’s scheduled testimony before the committee. If a man is tracking his celebrity status during a crisis instead of focusing solely on solutions, what else is he prioritizing over public welfare? If he’s funding dangerous research despite obvious risks, what judgment calls can we trust?
