Foreign Drunk Drivers Finally Face Real Consequences Under New Visa Policy

The Trump administration just did something that should’ve been standard policy decades ago. They’re revoking visas for foreign nationals who get arrested for drunk driving on American soil. Not warning them. Not giving them another chance. Just sending them home.

Think about that for a second. We’ve spent years debating border security, building walls, arguing over who gets to come here legally. And all that time, people who we’d already granted the privilege of visiting our country were getting hammered, climbing behind the wheel, and endangering American families. Some of them had blood alcohol levels three times the legal limit. One showed up drunk to a court-mandated DUI program. You can’t make this stuff up.

The State Department announced this week they’re done tolerating it. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s team put out a statement that didn’t mince words. “The Trump Administration is keeping reckless foreign drivers off our streets by revoking visas and denying further travel to the United States.” Finally, someone’s treating visa privileges like what they actually are: privileges, not rights.

Look at the cases they highlighted. One foreign national was busted for aggravated DUI with a blood alcohol level nearly double the legal limit. The kicker? There was a minor in the vehicle. Another had heroin in the car while driving with a BAC three times over. Someone else caused actual injury to another person while drunk behind the wheel. These aren’t minor infractions or cultural misunderstandings. These are serious crimes that put American lives at risk.

Here’s what gets me. We’ve become so accustomed to bureaucratic inertia that basic common sense feels revolutionary. A foreign visitor commits a serious crime on our soil and faces real consequences? That’s news now? It shouldn’t be, but here we are. For years, the default response to bad behavior from visa holders was paperwork, warnings, maybe a court date they’d skip before flying home anyway.

The traditional conservative position has always been straightforward. If you’re a guest in someone’s home, you respect their rules. America isn’t just handing out visas for fun. We’re extending trust, offering opportunity, opening our borders to people who promise to follow our laws. When they break that promise, especially in ways that could kill innocent Americans, the deal’s off.

This connects to something bigger than drunk driving. It’s about sovereignty and standards. The left loves to frame immigration enforcement as xenophobic or cruel, but they conveniently ignore stories like these. They don’t want to talk about the foreign national arrested for DUI, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest with violence, and domestic violence. That person’s visa got revoked too, and good riddance.

Limited government doesn’t mean ineffective government. It means government that focuses on its core responsibilities, and protecting American citizens from preventable harm sits right at the top of that list. You don’t need a massive bureaucracy to make this work. You just need officials willing to enforce standards without apology.

The State Department also started revoking visas for foreign nationals convicted of fraud. Same principle applies. We’re not running a charity for international criminals. We’re a sovereign nation with the right to decide who gets the privilege of being here. When someone abuses that privilege, whether through fraud or drunk driving or violence, they’ve made their choice. We’re just following through with consequences.

This is what America First looks like in practice. Not isolationism, not hatred of foreigners, just basic standards applied consistently. Come here legally, follow our laws, contribute positively, and you’re welcome. Drive drunk with a kid in your car or show up intoxicated to your own DUI hearing? Your visa’s gone, and you can explain to your family why you’re not allowed back.
