Americans Quit Their Jobs At Record Pace For 2nd Month

Published on

September saw record numbers of Americans leaving their jobs for the second consecutive month, with businesses and employers reporting a near-record number of available jobs.

The most recent Labor Department report indicates how 3% of the country’s workforce, or 4.4 million people, quit their jobs in August. This is an increase from the August figure of 4.3 million, along with the 10.4 million job openings in August.

There have been recorded levels of stress in the workplace as workers quit jobs to take higher-paying jobs being dangled by desperate employers. The economy is starting to grow, wages are increasing, and Americans are spending more. Employers have to increase their hiring to keep up with the pace. When people leave their jobs, it is usually seen as a sign of worker confidence. Most people leave their jobs to find a job.

Retailers and delivery companies face intense competition for workers, especially as they prepare for a busy winter holiday shopping season. Amazon, the online giant, is looking for 125,000 permanent warehouse workers and drivers. They pay $18 to $22 an hour. Sign-on bonuses up to $3,000.

The demand for seasonal workers is increasing. UPS, a package delivery company, is looking to hire 100,000 people to handle holiday orders. Some applicants will be offered jobs within 30 minutes.
