Is This Biden’s Katrina? Maui Residents Left to Fend for Themselves Organizing Relief Efforts

Published on

Maui has been devastated by wildfires for a week. Residents have fled into the ocean in order to escape the blazes. Joe Biden, so far, has made “no comments” on the deaths and presumably has nothing to add about the massive relief effort that is undoubtedly underway.

Are they actually underway?

Within 24 hours after Hurricane Katrina made landfall in 2005, left-wing bloggers and the national press were yelling about a lack of disaster relief for New Orleans. They (rightly), blamed George Bush’s FEMA Director Michael Brown, whose previous experience as an impresario of horses did not reassure anyone that he was up to the task.

Brown did a good job. Supplies were positioned outside of the city to wait for the storm’s passage. According to a House Committee that investigated the response to Hurricane Katrina, the incompetence of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco, was to blame. Supplies were never distributed. The hysteria created by Nagin over “babies being sexually abused” didn’t do anything to help.

Biden’s “no comments” hides a lack of relief for Maui residents. How do we know this? Maui residents have organized their own relief efforts.

Maui residents are now launching their own relief efforts by boating supplies to the region devastated by fire. A mini-flotilla containing boats laden with aid has been arriving off the coast of Kaanapali just north of Lahaina for days.

The Lani Kai was accompanied by a number of journalists and volunteers as the boat headed toward Kaanapali. It kept about a mile away from the shoreline as it passed Lahaina’s charred remains.

Maui and Hawaii have always been about the spirit of aloha. Spencer Erwin said that the community is small and everyone needs to work together.

The WSJ reported that “Aloha” is a term used to describe a feeling of warmth and friendship.

Erwin explained: “Every man, woman, and child is doing their best to help. They imagine that it’s their brother who’s without supplies on the Westside of Maui.”

Where is FEMA? Where is Biden? Media has not even made a sound when ordinary people are doing the work that FEMA and the federal government should do. It’s obvious that Joe Biden is a Democrat, and so is the Hawaiian government.

Washington Examiner:

It doesn’t bother us that our politicians could care less about the people they represent. Just a little convincing is all we need when the weather turns bad.

How is Biden, given the political tarring of Ted Cruz, and the political crucifixion of Bush, able to respond with “no comment”? And how can he get away from the fact that the entire Biden brand is empathy and more empathy?

Answer: The Democratic Party is just as concerned about empathy as any other emotion. For Democrats, emotions serve as tools for gaining power.

You can smile and sunbathe as Americans die in the worst disaster to hit Hawaii.

This situation will only get worse as long as Democratic Party operatives continue to control the narrative of the major media.
