According to Victory Outreach Pomona, an early morning fire destroyed a Los Angeles neighborhood and a church just hours before the Christmas toy drive.
Firefighters were called to the church at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. They began an aggressive attack inside the building, but within 20 minutes, the roof collapsed and the fire spread, forcing them to switch to a defensive approach, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department post on X (formerly Twitter).
As some of you may have heard, our church building caught fire this morning and was declared a total loss. The church announced on Facebook that it would be postponing its service and the Believe play & toy giveaway until further notice. Please join us in praying for our pastors, and our church.
According to the Fire Department, the entire fire had been extinguished at 6:13 am.
The toy giveaway was moved from Saturday night to Sunday evening, despite the total loss of the church.
The church said in a Facebook video that “it was tragic” to lose its church. “But we know what’s still standing is the Church and all of us, including our Pastors, came together and said, “We’re continuing with the Event”, so you’re invited.”
The church also added that firefighters, who helped extinguish the fires, would also be handing out toys at the event.
The church posted: “Amen and God Bless”
According to fire officials, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
