Columbia University’s campus remained tense Wednesday morning after a second confrontation between pro-Hamas, anti-Israel, and police students was avoided. University officials said they would continue to negotiate with the protesters for another 48 hours.
In a moment, we’ll return to the idea of “negotiations”.
The University President Minouche Shafik set a deadline of Tuesday midnight to reach an agreement regarding the clearing of an encampment on campus. However, the school continued negotiations with the radicals and said that Columbia was making “important advances.”

It’s enough. House Speaker Mike Johnson called for Shafik to resign on Wednesday.
Johnson said to Hugh Hewitt, a radio talk show host, that he planned to hold a Columbia press conference later on Wednesday with “some of my colleagues in the House Republicans of New York” to ask the university’s president to resign.
Johnson did not pull any punches and called Shafik, quite rightly, “very weak” or “inept”.
Shafik is a weak and inept leader. Can they even guarantee the safety of Jewish students? You expect them to stay at home and run for their life? It’s maddening.
We will work with my colleagues to hold people accountable for what they do on college campuses.
The speaker’s comments were spot on. If you are a university president who is negotiating with antisemitic protesters who have physically abused Jewish students and refuse to tear their encampment down and leave your campus you’ve already won the game.
The speaker continues:
Jewish students have been assaulted physically, harassed, and intimidated. We need to withdraw federal funding from these universities if they cannot maintain control.
These violent protesters need their student visas revoked. You have no right to be in this place and to protest, but Jewish students do have the right to attend class peacefully. They’re trying to obtain an education. This is madness.
Johnson told Hewitt: “I’ve watched some of the ‘men on street’ interviews of some of these protesting kids; you and I both know that the vast majority have no idea what they are talking about.”
Some of them deny that the October 7th ever happened. It’s ridiculous. We are depending on, calling on, and demanding that these university officials get control of the current situation. It’s out of hand.
Oh, yes, it’s true, Mr. Speaker. The left isn’t interested in facts, especially those that contradict their narratives. You only need to look at “anthropogenic climate change” and COVID-19 as perfect examples.
Johnson was adamant in his criticism of Joe Biden’s administration and their handling (or non-handling) of antisemitic protests.
Right now, the White House is giving in to the antisemitic (or pro-Hamas) wing of the party. They have backpedaled in their support for Israel, and there are members of Congress that refuse to denounce the chants ‘Death To America! ‘, or even go silent.
Some Democrat Members of Congress even call these antisemitic gangs ‘peaceful demonstrators’, and defend the harassment and intimidation against the rest. This is a very serious issue. They are allowing the mob to take over the American ideals for free speech, free exchange of opinions, and free exercise of religious beliefs. This is not us.
The radical left may not be “us”, but they are the same.

To further Speaker Johnson’s point, Joe Biden and the Democrat Party have poured gasoline on the pro-Hamas, pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel demonstrations from the beginning– meaning with Biden’s disgusting try-to-have-it-both-ways response in the aftermath of the horrific October 7 Hamas attack inside Israel that left more than 1,300 Israeli citizens dead and the Jewish state’s warranted response.
