The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department recently criticized the county’s newly reinstated indoor mask mandate, saying that the COVID-19 precautions are not backed by science and that the law enforcement agency will not enforce it. Sheriff Alex Villanueva shares that his department is too “underfunded” as is to expend limited resources and ensure that residents comply with a public health order.

The mandate would apply to both vaccinated and unvaccinated people in shops, gyms, retail stores, and restaurants. It will take effect just before midnight on Saturday. The county made the announcement after recorded more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases each week for a day, adding that there is “substantial community transmission” to reinstate COVID-19 mandates. Some agencies don’t necessarily agree.

“The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) has authority to enforce the order, but the underfunded/defunded Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will not expend our limited resources and instead ask for voluntary compliance. We encourage the DPH to work collaboratively with the Board of Supervisors and law enforcement to establish mandates that are both achievable and supported by science,” Villanueva said.

Villanueva told KNX Radio that the mandate was “hatched in darkness” and is not a collaborative effort with the science behind it. He went on to say that he would not allow deputies to get involved if they were called to a large event where residents were breaking the mask mandate rules. He said that if Public Health wanted to use their enforcement capabilities, then they can knock themselves out.

“I’m not going to have my deputies involved in any sort of conflict that’s an artificially created one,” Villanueva said.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger even shared that she is concerned about rising cases, but doesn’t believe that the mask mandate will stress vaccine efficacy or compel unvaccinated residents to get vaccinated. She said that LA County should remain aligned with the state instead of creating “confusion and disagreement” at the local level.

It has been pointed out that the spurt in coronavirus cases cannot be linked to face coverings and that the new requirements would completely disregard vaccinations as something that is not backed by science.

LA County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis, however, said that they are expected to keep that order in place until they begin to see improvements. The state has continuously urged residents to get vaccinated over the months including incentive programs that offer tickets to theme parks and cash prizes.

County and city officials have even talked about sending out mobile vaccination units to unvaccinated segments of the population. Even Dr. Paul Offit, a member of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, said that the decision to get vaccinated is not a personal one. He said it is “not a freedom,” but your right to avoid catching and transmitting a potentially fatal infection. While there have been talks of mandating vaccination in the state, mask mandates that include unvaccinated residents destroy the whole narrative.

Los Angeles County Officials have once again started pushing the fear of saying delta variants are spreading with greater ease and causing serious infection for those who have yet to be vaccinated. It was only a matter of time before they would start pushing face masks in indoor settings again, despite what the science says.

Other health officials add that they are seeing a “rise” in COVID-19 cases during the summer and that it’s a warning sign for all. Other U.S officials have also followed LA’s lead in reversing loose COVID-19 restrictions including Clark County, Orange County, Austin, Texas, Yolo County in California, and Mississippi.

It’s only time again that the lockdowns are pushed and mask mandates are being reinstated. Democrats are running out of fear-mongering tactics and they know that the mask mandates don’t work.

The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention even published a report revealing that masks don’t protect you from COVID-19. But if you get a bunch of medical “experts” on TV spouting fear, then it gives people just enough leftist propaganda to mask up again without question. No one ever needed a mask for a virus that has a 99.7% recovery rate and minimal symptoms.
