U.S officials are currently looking into reports that older Afghan men from Kabul had been admitted at intake centers in the United Arab Emirates and in a number of military bases with young girls they claimed as ‘brides.’ The girls were presented to the authorities as to the ‘wives’ or brides of these much older men. Some even arrived at the 60,000 acre Army base in Wisconsin with more than one wife. There are currently more than 123,000 people, mostly Afghans, who have been evacuated by the Biden Administration during the chaotic Kabul withdrawal.
While child marriage is not uncommon in Afghanistan, it is reported that these ‘brides’ are sexually abused and forced to marry in order to escape. They can often be presented as ‘married’ to adult Afghan men, as well as polygamous families. The U.S has strict policies against human trafficking and sexual abuse, but most Biden Administration officials are saying the allegations against Afghan evacuees are “anecdotal and difficult to prove.”
Other U.S officials, however, are expressing criticism over the move and warning those in Washington that most Afghan girls had been forced into marriages in order to escape the Taliban takeover.
Sen. Ted Cruz blasted the news that President Biden had allowed a number of Afghan men to arrive into the country with child brides as a part of their “botched evacuation.” They have arrived at American Army bases with young rape victims they are presenting as their “wives.”
“There have been multiple cases of child brides and polygamous families from Afghanistan arriving at military bases here in America as part of their botched evacuation,” These reports are credible and horrifying. President Biden had no plan for a secure, orderly, and responsible withdrawal from Afghanistan. Instead, the President and Biden-Harris officials imposed arbitrary deadlines for political purposes,” Sen. Cruz said.
Many State Department documents have reported the multiple cases of minor females, asking with official guidance about how best to proceed. The reports have also received mass amounts of criticism, with as many as 200 American citizens still stranded in Afghanistan.
Other U.S officials at the Abu Dhabi intake centers have also reported Afghan girls saying they were raped by the men they were forced to marry. There have still been no comments on the documents or details pertaining to each case from the military, Department of Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services, which oversees the Wisconsin facility.
It’s not surprising that the Biden Administration is, yet again, turning a blind eye to the chaos they’ve created. Instead of focusing on getting the remaining 200 American citizens back in the country, they’ve let dozens of Afghan men and their ‘child brides’ through. Even though those men have just arrived in a country where it is highly illegal to be married and sexually assault young girls, the Biden Administration should’ve thought this one through. It’s unclear what, if anything, can be done about it.
“Officials say that they take all such allegations seriously but that many of them are anecdotal and difficult to prove, particularly amid the crush of Afghan evacuees at multiple locations in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States,” the AP reports.
We keep thinking there aren’t any ways to make the botched Biden withdrawal and evacuation even worse, but no. Now there’s a whole new layer to the problem of refugee processing in the states. It’s clear by the reports that evacuated refugees have managed to bring their child brides into the country with them and that President Biden isn’t going to do a thing about it. Not even during the proper procedure.
Biden left billions of dollars of military equipment in the hands of the Taliban, has continued to ignore stranded Americans, and is now dealing with a surge of Afghan men arriving with their child brides. When will the mainstream media call the Biden Administration out on this?
