Jeff Bezos Donates $100 Million To Obama Foundation

In the wake of Amazon’s clash with the Biden Admin over antitrust issues, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is donating $100 Million to the Obama Foundation. The $100 million donations by Bezos to the Obama Foundation are in memory of the late Rep. John Lewis. It is the largest single contribution to the foundation.

This donation also follows the 5 anti-competitive tech industry practices being introduced by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust and was presented to limit the power of Silicon Valley’s top tech companies.

One bill had been designed to stop technology companies from favoring their products and services on their platforms, which is a practice that Google and Amazon have been accused of. Another bill had been about using data from competitors to gain an edge over them, which led to an antitrust investigation into Amazon.

Lina Khan, the Chairperson of FTC, is also reportedly investigating Amazon’s acquisition of MGM Studios for $8.5B. Amazon later demanded that Khan withdraws from any investigations into the company.

Ex-Obama press secretary Jay Carney organized the nine-figure gift for the Obama Foundation to help increase the scope of programming and emerging leadership in the United States. Bezos asked that the Plaza at Obama Presidential Center be renamed the John Lewis Plaza. Although the foundation didn’t specify what Bezos would donate, it stated that the money would be used to give the next generation of leaders the tools, resources, and training to make a difference in the world.

Bezos stated that he was thrilled that he can support President and Mrs. Obama’s Foundation in its mission of training and inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.

Barack Obama, the former president, flew to Glasgow, Scotland earlier this month for the climate conference and said he wanted to encourage older people to get out the way.

Obama stated in a video message that one of his favorite things about the Foundation is seeing the young activists around the globe take up the torch and work in their countries. He said they are working across borders to tell the older generation who got us in this mess that there is an obligation to find our way out.
