Bill Maher compared Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), planned rebuttal of President Biden’s State of the Union speech to a teammate sacking their quarterback. Maher stated that he couldn’t understand why someone from the president’s own party would offer a counter-address during a segment of his HBO Real Time show.
“Now, I have always seen the opposition party respond to my arguments. This is the same party. It’s like firing your own quarterback,” Bill Maher stated Friday. “I don’t know if she’s going to say nice things about Joe but it’s to present-… bad idea.
Chloe Valdary (the Theory of Enchantment founder) countered that Tlaib might have been motivated to keep the party’s feet to fire instead of putting up an “unified front”. Maher however did not buy it, and pointed out Tlaib’s history of extremism in his time as a member of the “Squad.”
Maher stated, “I remember that she’s very them versus them.” “I remember her because she was one of the Squad members. We talked about BDS on the show, which some people want to boycott Israel. It is because Israel somehow became the Nazis.
Maher said, “And I said no-that BDS is a bunch bullshit.” “And then Rashida Talib called me to be boycotted. So, she was saying that we shouldn’t boycott, and then her response was, ‘We are gonna boycott’ you. When people ask, “Why are you so hard-on the left these days?” That is what bullshit looks like. We have a different opinion on this issue called BDS, and you can just boycott me.
Bret Stephens, a New York Times columnist, said that crazy minorities hold both parties hostage.
Stephens stated, “That’s what the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are different. The Democrats are hostage in their insane minority and the Republicans are hostage in their majority.”
Maher was referring to a feud that he had in 2019 with Tlaib, during Trump’s era. This was after the Democrats voted against the BDS Movement overwhelmingly.
“Some people only have one option: to boycott. Cancel. Maher wrote “Make-go-away,” apparently echoing toddlers’ phrases. “But here’s what the house voted 318-17 to condemn the #BDS Movement, which included 93% of Dems. He asked Tlaib at the time if she wanted to boycott 93% her party.
