Prominent Democrat operatives warn that if President Joe Biden fulfills his promise and runs for reelection, he will need primary challengers.
Michael Starr Hopkins stated to the Hill that if he runs, he would be challenged. Hopkins enthusiastically supported Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, but has lost faith in the president as an unchallenged nominee.
Corbin Trent (ex-senior aide to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY) echoed Hopkins’s analysis. He said, “If it seems like it’s going be a free for all, then I think that it’s going back to the 24-person primaries.”
Biden’s leadership has split Democrats. Biden’s leadership has split Democrats.
However, Democrats who are less radical are trying to win the midterm elections in bluer districts that have less support for the far-left agenda are doing so. Sen. Joe Manchin (D.WV), a senator from a state where Donald Trump almost won by 40 points, has been opposed to many of Biden’s radical policies. Manchin was responsible for sabotaging Biden’s expensive “Build Back Better” agenda. He also supported the fossil fuel sector during the war against the Biden administration.
Far-left Democrats, however, have condemned Manchin for “blocking progression.” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), blamed Manchin for opposing “Build Back Better” and said that he was responsible for the failure to implement the radical agenda.
She said, “It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Senator Joe Manchin went to Fox News to kill The Build Back Better Act – he had been promising it for months and some people didn’t want to believe him.” Joe Manchin has scuptuted President Joe Biden’s policy agenda. Joe Manchin has stalled progress for the American people.”
Biden has never been able satisfy any side of his party. Hopkins believes that this division is why Biden will be primaries.
Hopkins stated that people thought it would be the left who would cause trouble and make his lives more difficult. Instead, it’s the moderates. He said that the progressives have been a great ally and have carried the water for Hopkins in a way most people would not have imagined. He owes a lot to the left for many of his political victories.
His poor polling results are due to Biden’s inability to perceive progress within his party. Biden’s approval rating within his party is just 77%. For most of Donald Trump’s presidency, his GOP approval rating was in mid-nineties. Only 16 percent of Americans strongly endorsed Biden and 40 percent strongly disapproved.
Biden’s low poll numbers could be another sign that he might face a primary challenger.
The president’s precarious situation seems to be well known by the establishment media. It has been promoting Biden’s inability to run for office in 2024, while Harris and Clinton are promoted as legitimate candidates for 2024.
“The left is already looking forward to 2024. Some want to see Biden’s primary challenge,” a Politico headline read in January.
The Daily Beast published a February headline: “Biden Deserves A Primary Challenger.” USA Today published a headline in March saying, “There is zero chance Joe Biden will run for president in 2024.” Why didn’t he answer the question?
