Sarah Palin Announces Run For Congress In Alaska

Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska and vice-presidential candidate for Alaska, announced Friday that she will be running for Congress. Palin posted a Facebook statement announcing her intention to enter the special election race for Don Young, the Republican Congressman who died in March after nearly 50 years of service.

“Today, I am announcing my candidacy to the U.S. House seat as Alaskan. Public service is a calling. I would be honored for Alaska to represent them in Congress, as Rep. Young did for 49. “I am aware that I have a lot of work ahead of me. I will honor Rep. Young’s legacy and offer myself in service to the state that he loved and fought to protect, because I share his passion for Alaska and the United States of America.

Palin stated that America is at “a tipping point” as she had “watched far-left destroy the country.”

Palin stated, “I knew that I had to stand up and fight for the cause.”

Palin’s website has been updated with a link that takes you to WinRed, which is looking for donations for the congressional race.

Friday was the deadline for filing for the primary election of June 11, and Palin joined a field already containing more than 40 candidates.

Anchorage Daily News reports that the results of the primary election will become public on June 26, and that the top four finishers will move on to the special election on August 16, where the winner will be determined via ranked-choice vote.
