George Floyd’s Family Threatens to Sue Kanye West for $250 Million After Rapper’s Comments About Floyd’s Cause of Death

After Kanye West’s controversial comments about Floyd’s 2020 death, the mother of George Floyd’s child threatened to sue him for $250 million.

What Are The Details?

In a Tuesday press release, Dixon & Dixon Law Offices and Witherspoon Law Group described the suit as “forthcoming” to indicate that Roxie Washington — Floyd’s mother — retained the firms to “file [a] lawsuit against Ye West …”

According to the firms, West, his business partners, associates, and others are liable for harassment and misappropriation of funds, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.

TMZ reported that West was criticized for claiming Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose, pre-existing conditions, and not Derek Chauvin’s knee.

TMZ claimed it received a copy from West of a cease-and-desist letter. It stated in part that Floyd’s cause was well-settled by the evidence presented in courts during his criminal and civil trials. You have made false and unfounded statements, which have caused damage to Mr. Floyd and his estate.

The law firms also stated that Floyd’s daughter was “retraumatized by West’s statements” and that West is “creating a dangerous and unhealthy environment for her.”

The cease-and-desist letter demands that West end the interview with “Drink Champs” and all similar statements (regarding] George Floyd on any podcast, website, or advertisement, regardless of platform or medium.

Anything Else?

West has been very prominent in the media over the past few weeks. He first attracted outrage via social media after he wore a shirt that read “White Lives Matter” to a fashion show. Here’s a photo with Candace Owens (conservative pundit), who is also wearing the same shirt.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson of Fox News, West called out the media’s “godless agenda” while defending his pro-life views. After posting a tweet that some regarded as anti-Semitic, West was banned from his Twitter account days later. After JPMorgan Chase had canceled West’s bank accounts last Wednesday, West, a rapper and entrepreneur responded by saying that he was happy to have crossed the line.
