New York Post Says Website, Twitter Account Were Hacked To Post Vile & Reprehensible Content

The New York Post claims it was hacked Thursday after offensive tweets and articles were posted to its website and Twitter account. The newspaper quickly removed the offending content and is now investigating the incident, which it says was done by an employee.

TechCrunch has learned that the New York Post suffered a major hack Thursday. The newspaper was hacked after offensive tweets and articles were posted on its website as well as on its Twitter account. These tweets and articles were racist, sexually violent, and contained death threats against elected officials. They were quickly deleted.

NYP tweeted about the hack, saying that they were investigating it:

CNBC published a statement by the Post stating that the hack was an employee’s work.

The tweet below shows some of the fake headlines.

TechCrunch was informed by a spokesperson for the company that “Confirming that Post was hacked. We are still investigating the reason for the vile and offensive content that was posted.

This hack, although it’s likely to have taken place within a Post system is similar to the major hack of verified Twitter account in 2020 that was used for a crypto scam.

As Breitbart News reported:

Former President Barack Obama, Joe Biden, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and businessman Michael Bloomberg, as well as Bill Gates, Microsoft founder and former Democrat presidential hopeful, were among the compromised accounts. Brands like Apple and Uber are also reported to have been compromised, as well as entertainers such Kanye West and others. Earlier reports claimed that the hack included Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister. However, some people are disputing this.

An unknown party gained control of the accounts of some of world’s most influential people and used it to launch a cryptocurrency scam asking their followers to send large amounts of Bitcoin to a digital wallet owned by the hackers.
