Twitter’s Head Of Trust And Safety Among Resignations

Twitter employees are leaving Twitter beyond the mass layoffs last week.

Workers who managed to survive the job cuts are now facing more difficult work conditions and greater uncertainty about their ability keep Twitter safe.

Social media is losing top-ranking leaders who are responsible for data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance with regulations.

Yoel Roth is Twitter’s trust and safety head — an executive previously unknown who became the face of Twitter’s content moderating after Musk was elected.

Roth is identified on Roth’s Twitter account as the former head of trust and safety

A senior executive confirmed Roth’s resignation in a memo board internal to his coworkers, which was seen by The Associated Press.

Roth’s resignation is a “huge blow” to Twitter’s reliability, according to Emily Horne, his former colleague and friend.

Horne, who was responsible for global policy communications at Twitter from 2012 to 2018, said that Horne had worked extremely hard in very difficult circumstances. He was also personally targeted by some of most vicious trolls on the platform. He said that he stayed because he believed in the work of his team to improve public discourse and the health of that conversation.

Alex Stamos, a former Facebook security head, tweeted Thursday that there was a “serious threat of a breach” with “significantly reduced staff”. This could put Twitter in conflict with an order issued by the Federal Trade Commission in 2011 that required it fix serious data security flaws.

In a statement, the FTC stated Thursday that it was “reporting recent developments on Twitter with deep concern.”

Twitter’s exodus continues with the departure of its chief privacy officer Damien Kieran and chief information security officer Lea Kissner. Kissner tweeted Thursday that she had made the difficult decision to leave Twitter.

Twitter employees were warned Thursday by Elon Musk to be prepared for “difficult days ahead” if they don’t find new revenue streams.

These developments were part of Musk’s acquisition and whirlwind day.

Musk sent an email Wednesday night to employees directing them to come to work on Thursday morning. His first “all-hands meeting” was called by Musk Thursday afternoon. Many had been relying on public tweets from Tesla CEO Bill Gates to get clues about Twitter’s future.
