President Biden held a Friday ceremony to honor law enforcement officials as well as election officials involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol Riot.
Biden presented a Presidential Citizens Medal to law enforcement and election officials. He stated that “history would recall” their names.
Biden stated that “You stood firm that morning and the only thing on line was democracy.” Biden stated, “You stood firm that day and the only thing on the line was democracy.
The Presidential Citizens Medal is given to those who have “exemplified exemplary acts of public service for their country” in an election year. It was presented to Jocelyn Benson (Secretary State of Michigan); Rusty Bowers, Arizona Secretary of State during 2020 Election; Michael Fanone, who was a Metropolitan Police Department officer during the January 6th Attack and sustained injuries. Eugene Goodman, a Capitol Police Officer who diverted protesters from Senators, received it. Brian Sicknick was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal, according the United States Capitol Police.
Gladys Sicknick, the mother of Sicknick, accepted the medal for Brian Sicknick.
America owes you everything. Biden said that a credit is one of gratitude. We cannot repay it fully unless our lives reflect the good things we have done.
Biden made another mistake at the event, stating January 6 instead of July 6.
Biden stated that “If I could halt for a second and just tell You the Impact What Happened on July 6 had International Consequences beyond what I think any of you can fully understand,”
Biden spoke about Jan. 6, 2021.
“There’s no other way to put it. A violent mob of insurrectionists vandalized sacred sites, attacked law enforcement and hunted down elected officials in an attempt to overthrow democracy and take peaceful power. “
