President Biden held a Friday ceremony to honor law enforcement officials as well as election officials involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol Riot.
Biden presented a Presidential Citizens Medal to law enforcement and election officials. He stated that “history would recall” their names.
Biden stated that “You stood firm that morning and the only thing on line was democracy.” Biden stated, “You stood firm that day and the only thing on the line was democracy.
The Presidential Citizens Medal is given to those who have “exemplified exemplary acts of public service for their country” in an election year. It was presented to Jocelyn Benson (Secretary State of Michigan); Rusty Bowers, Arizona Secretary of State during 2020 Election; Michael Fanone, who was a Metropolitan Police Department officer during the January 6th Attack and sustained injuries. Biden spoke about Jan. 6, 2021.
